For our part at DRIVE, we've had some fairly big changes lately, most notably a new managing director in the form of Andrew Burns.

His is a perfect appointment for DRIVE as his experience as a consultant saw him working across international boundaries with all the potential pitfalls that entails. Challenges we face across the vehicle leasing industry as it evolves.

Taking a Fresh Look at Vehicle Leasing

Drive Software Solutions has a new managing director. Three months into the job and Andrew Burns has already formed some very incisive opinions

Andrew Burns, 56, ran his own successful consultancy business prior to joining Drive. Around 90 per cent plus of his consultancy's work was in internationalisation of software companies, from multi-billion dollar NASDAQ-listed companies down to smaller concerns. His consultancy developed internationalisation strategies to cross the boundaries of languages, economies, pricing models, softwares and even time zones; addressing the need to globalise and localise software for differing tax regimes and business practices and varying market conditions and regulations. This experience is especially pertinent to today's fleet market, which is frequently characterised by boundary-crossing joint ventures, partnerships and wholly owned subsidiaries.

Automotive leasing is now an international affair. As a result of saturation of their local markets, in recent years the large leasing companies have expanded into emerging countries throughout Europe. They have followed their large international clients in pursuit of multinational service provision under pan-European conditions.

At the same time, the wave of consolidation and centralisation within the European automotive leasing sector continues unabated. This is reflected in the centralisation of functional and support departments – such as procurement, finance, remarketing, IT operations and IT management.

Novated Leases

novated_leasesA hit in Australia, this employee-friendly way to lease a vehicle is poised for growth elsewhere. With DRIVE you're ready for novated leases

Under a novated lease, a business takes on a vehicle for an employee, with the responsibility for the vehicle passing to the employee and the lease fees being paid out of the employee's pre-tax income. In the event of the employee changing job, as they do all too frequently these days, the employee is able to take the car, and hence the lease to their new job. Again the payments are taken from the employee's pre-tax salary and held in a separate nominated account. The scheme is well-established in Australia.
